ZACHARY, LA (WAFB) - A young girl died and three other children were seriously injured in a crash early Saturday morning in East Feliciana Parish.
According to Louisiana State Police, Tobiya Kato, 9, of Baton Rouge was killed after getting thrown from the back seat of the car on LA 964 near US 61 in Zachary.
Troopers said her mother, Jamet Kato, 29, was driving the car and faces charges in the wreck.
They reported the car veered off the road, started spinning, went airborne, flew backwards, hit a dirt mound, flipped end-over-end and landed on its roof in a wooded area.
In addition to the girl who died in the crash, three other kids were in the back seat.
Their ages are 6, 5 and 2.
The 6-year-old also flew out of the car during the crash.
Investigators said none of them were buckled up.
They were taken to Our Lady of the Lake Medical Center.
The youngsters remain hospitalized and were listed in critical condition at last check.
